Don't forget you need a licence. In the UK a fishing licence is compulsory for anyone over the age of 12. It covers 2 rods and expires on 31 March each year. They can be purchased from a post office.

Angling is a sport and art for the whole family and not just restricted to men and boys so the Cotswolds is ideal for all ages to enjoy a fishing holiday as I recently discovered.

Staying in the cottage on one occasion I was fascinated by a whole family who spent all hours on the banks of the lake in front of me especially as one of the anglers was female. At the end of the week I had to ask why she had been fishing rather than shopping! Her response was she had never been fishing before but was now totally 'hooked' by the experience of fishing as a sport.

Fly fishing is an ancient angling method which used to be used mainly for catching trout and salmon but today for a wide variety of species including pike and carp. It is becoming more popular with anglers who aim is to catch as many different species as possible with the fly.
